Interaction between increased CO2 and temperature enhance plant growth but do not affect millet grain production

چکیده

The intergovernmental panel on climate change predicts a progressive increase in atmospheric CO2 concentration and temperature; however, their effects cereals have been shown for limited number of species. This study evaluates the increased temperature separately combined millet growth grain production open-top chambers where microclimate was adjusted to following conditions: ambient enriched (~ 800 ppm) higher (+3ºC); CO2-enriched temperature. For each treatment, two were used, containing 15 7 L pots. Each pot received five seeds at beginning experiment thinning one plant per days after sowing. Ten plants harvested from chamber 65 sowing height, leaves longest root length as well shoot biomass measured. remaining 130 evaluate production. results indicate that high levels did not affect biomass. On other hand, subjected grew 7% taller than those grown under Contrastingly, submitted both elevated 19% had 22% more However, any environmental conditions. We provide evidence millets are tolerant predicted changes potential may be affected.

Do Insecticides Affect Plant Growth And Development ?

THE application of insecticides is often necessary in greenhouse crop production to prevent damage from insect pests that could render the plants unsalable. However, pesticide usage can lead to toxicity issues, which may adversely affect plant growth and development. It seems plausible that applications of foliar insecticides could adversely affect photosynthesis by clogging, or at least partia...

Plant growth responses to elevated atmospheric CO2 are increased by phosphorus sufficiency but not by arbuscular mycorrhizas

Capturing the full growth potential in crops under future elevated CO2 (eCO2) concentrations would be facilitated by improved understanding of eCO2 effects on uptake and use of mineral nutrients. This study investigates interactions of eCO2, soil phosphorus (P), and arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) symbiosis in Medicago truncatula and Brachypodium distachyon grown under the same conditions. The focu...

Diverse fen plant communities enhance carbon-related multifunctionality, but do not mitigate negative effects of drought

Global change, like droughts, can destabilize the carbon sink function of peatlands, either directly or indirectly through changes in plant community composition. While the effects of drought and plant community composition on individual carbon (C) related processes are well understood, their effect on multiple C-related processes simultaneously-multifunctionality-is poorly known. We studied th...

Initial pH of medium affects organic acids production but do not affect phosphate solubilization

The pH of the culture medium directly influences the growth of microorganisms and the chemical processes that they perform. The aim of this study was to assess the influence of the initial pH of the culture medium on the production of 11 low-molecular-weight organic acids and on the solubilization of calcium phosphate by bacteria in growth medium (NBRIP). The following strains isolated from cow...

Increased plant volatile production affects oviposition, but not larval development, in the moth Helicoverpa armigera.

It is well established that herbivorous insects respond to changes in plant odour production, but little attention has been given to whether these responses relate to direct fitness costs of plant volatile production on insect growth and survival. Here, we use transgenic Nicotiana tabacum (tobacco) plants that produce relatively large amounts of the volatile (S)-linalool to study whether the re...
